Security improvements and SSO authentication for eDay

The European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) is responsible for formulating the EU’s international partnership and development policy. The ultimate goal is to reduce poverty, ensure sustainable development, and promote democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

DG INTPA accompanies partner countries on their path towards sustainable development, continuously adapts their support to the country’s evolving needs, transitioning from bilateral assistance towards more targeted support as the situation improves.

DG INTPA requested assistance to ensure compliance of its eDay application with the latest security recommendations.

Approach

Conduct in-depth analysis of eDay and its security report:

• Analyse the vulnerability report and identify areas for improvement.
• Identify potential functional impacts and propose solutions.
• Perform proof of concept (PoC) of the single sign-on (SSO) authentication integration.

Implement the required improvements and authentication integration.

• Provide project management, security and technological expertise.
• Give guidance and solutions for issues throughout the security and functional testing.

Results

• We successfully closed all identified vulnerability gaps and significantly reduced the security risks for DG INTPA.
• The SSO authentication integration not only brought an additional layer of security, but also saved time for users of the application.
